About Surma

Surma is the stage name of Débora Umbelino, a 24-year-old Portuguese singer and musician from a small town near Leiria, Portugal.
She began her musical career by winning a high school band competition with her first group, « Backwater and the Screaming Fantasy. » She then launched her solo project. Her debut album, « Antwerpen, » caught the attention of Portuguese media and received critical acclaim.
Her music blends elements of jazz, electronica, and rock, creating a unique and intimate sound. She is sometimes compared to artists like Joanna Newsom or Björk. Surma has collaborated with various artists and musical projects, including « Concerts for Babies, » and wrote songs for the soundtrack of a Portuguese film, « SNU. »
Over the past two years, Surma has performed 200 concerts in 16 cities around the world, participating in events such as South By Southwest, Eurosonic Noorderslag, and NOS Primavera Sound.
