What does « soundscape » mean?
The term « soundscape » refers to a composition of natural, human, and mechanical sounds, perceived or recorded in a given space. It is a concept that is both artistic, ecological, and acoustic. The word was popularized in the 1970s by composer and researcher R. Murray Schafer, who developed the idea of « soundscape » as a way of listening to the world attentively and critically. He notably developed this concept in his book The Tuning of the World.
